This system uses AC for both ignition and lighting, with half-wave rectification to the battery.  This setup is what I've found to be the most intuitive to understand and install for people just looking to get their old machine running as easily as possible.

The focus of this product is reliability and longevity through build quality, and not over-complicating things.  All connections are labeled.  The harness installs in minutes, and keeps on working without much thought after that.  If you're new to these karts, this is the harness to get.

✅ Will this fit your kart? Checklist:

  • Must be a GY6 between 150cc to "200cc".
  • Must have a 5-wire stator (both 6-pole and 8-pole are fine).
  • Non-EFI only
  • Pretty much anything else goes, including machines that were originally DC as long as you grab the correct AC parts.  Check more notes below.

Routing: Harness length is 9ft.  Fits almost all GY6 go kart and buggy models with the 152/157QMK, 161QMK engines.  Route along driver side of the chassis, not in the floor pan. 

Scooters/ATVs?  No. 

✅ What else to know:

  • Only use a standard black AC CDI.  Avoid fake "performance" CDIs.
  • Only use an AC split-phase regulator unit (see pictures below).
  • The key switch rings are size M4 (4mm screw).
  • The kill switch tabs are 4.8mm flat female spades (3/16").

Headlights:

  • You must use halogen headlights with this harness.
  • Headlight circuit automatically turns on/off with the engine.
  • Don't try to run substantial LED lighting from the battery.   You'll want one of my DC kits instead.

Battery:

  • Use a 12v battery rated between 6.5Ah and 9Ah capacity.
  • Fully charge your battery before first use, and after prolonged time in storage.

Frequent Questions (Read before ordering!)

Is this the exact same wiring as my factory harness?

No this kit is not like your original harness, this is a retrofit kit based on my 20 years of personal experience dealing with GY6 karts and issues with factory wiring across various kart models.

I've eliminated the common electrical pitfalls that lead to most breakdowns, and focus on nailing the basics with high build quality and reliability as the first priority.

Features included:

  • Ignition
  • Charging
  • Electric start
  • Head lights
  • Autochoke

Things like tail lights, brake lights, horns, speedometers, shifter indicators, and turn signals are NOT supported. These things would blow my asking price through the roof considering my build time and the materials required, for not much actual benefit.

What else will I need?

You'll need your existing battery cables, existing stator, a good battery, and a pair of headlights. If these are all in good shape already you won't need anything else.

Improved USA connectors that won't crumble with age.

SuperGY6 connectors and fuse holders are all 3D printed right here in the USA. Even the raw plastic material is made and sourced in America!

This is because original nylon connectors tend to crumble and fall apart after a season or two of sun exposure.

The type of plastic used is Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (PETG) plastics for strong UV resistance.  PETG is approximately as strong as nylon brand new, but keeps that strength over time despite frequent sun exposure.   This should be the last harness you have to buy for a long while.
